A police description of suspects has been revealed after rapper XXXTentacion was shot dead in Florida

The 20-year-old rapper  – real name Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy –  was shot and killed on 18 June in South Florida as he was leaving Deerfield Beach motorcycle dealership. The artist was pronounced dead on Monday evening at a Fort Lauderdale hospital, the authorities said. Broward County Sheriff’s Department confirmed the news in a tweet that read: ‘The adult male that was taken to the hospital has been pronounced dead.’ A statement from the sheriff’s office added that the incident was a ‘likely robbery’ as his Louis Vuitton bag was also stolen.

One person at the scene told The Blast that he ‘appeared to die instantly’. Now Broward County’s public information office reportedly refused to confirm a media report that suggested the shooter was wearing a red mask. The sheriff’s office said it was investigating the murder by ‘two armed suspects in an apparent robbery’. A statement said ‘at least one of the suspects fired a gun striking Onfroy’ and ‘both suspects fled in a dark-colour SUV.’ No arrests have been made.

In the wake of X’s death fellow rappers, Soldier Kidd and Soldier JoJo denied involvement in Onfroy’s death after social media posts showed them with takeaway food from a food outlet, one of which is more than four miles from where XXXTentacion was found dead. However, the brand has another three branches in the county, all of which are more than 12 miles from the motorcycle dealership. Soldier Kidd said he was at his home ‘all day, popping Xanax and shit like that’ via an Instagram live video. Soldier JoJo also shared a video on the same social media platform responding to allegations over any involvement: ‘We respect everybody, straight up. We ain’t with none of that shit man, I respect that man for who he is, and RIP to that man.’

XXXTentacion’s music has climbed up the charts in the wake of his death. On iTunes, the single SAD! is currently number one while the track Changes has reached number five. His most recent album ? from which those two tracks are found is at number three in the album chart while his debut album 17 is at number five. The rapper’s album ? spiked 41,306% on Amazon Music in a matter of hours after his passing, while 17 is also up nearly 9,000%.

Spotify also chose to reverse a previous decision to stop streaming the rapper’s music, a decision that came after he was charged for the alleged beating of his pregnant girlfriend. Physical copies of XXX’s music also rose in sales with the vinyl of ? jumping 542,566% while the CD hit a 54,057% spike in sales.
