NIGERIA DECIDES: Monarch regrets voter apathy, attributes it to Buhari’s victory

The Traditional Ruler of Umueri Kingdom in Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State, HRM Igwe Sir Ben Izuchukwu Emeka, has attributed the re-election of President MUhammadu Buhari in the just concluded presidential election as responsible for the low turn out of voters in some areas in Anambra State during the Saturday House of Assembly election.

According to him, the poor turnout in the exercise was as a result of the February 23 presidential and National Assembly election that favoured the APC candidate, President Buhari, which would have been in favour of the PDP candidate, Alahaji Atiku Abubakar and his running mate, Mr. Peter Obi, who happens to be the son of the soil.

“So a lot of voters, especially in this part of the country, expected PDP to have been declared winner in that election,” he explained.

Igwe Emeka, who cast his vote at about 11 am on Saturday, urged the people to come out in the remaining hours.

Giving his royal blessings to the polls, he urged the electorate to eschew violence but vote according to their conscience to elect the right persons into public offices.
