Muslim community tasks Gov Ugwuanyi on relationship

Members of the Muslim community in Enugu State have appealed to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and his government to always relate with them through  either the Chief Imam of the Central Mosque or the Islamic Centre Uwani, in Enugu South Local Government Area. They decried the practice where the government uses individuals in dealing with the community.

They said the practice often leads to many of them being marginalized or ignored by such individuals. Briefing journalists at the end of a crucial meeting of the community in Enugu, the Chief Imam Zulqarnaini  Saeed, expressed dismay over a situation in which a handful of individuals incessantly cornered to themselves what belonged to the entire Muslim community.

He  said that it was regrettable that since the present administration came into office, almost all the government’s dealings with the community had been done through individuals thereby relegating to the background the Central Mosque head and the Islamic Centre which is the coordinating base. He recalled that over the years, past governments in the state, including military regimes, had always reached out to members of the community through the Islamic Centre, “which is the appropriate channel.” The meeting was attended by Imams from different locations in the state, as well as Islamic scholars and other stakeholders.
